119: How to keep it real as a mom & how authenticity can lead us to happiness with Mona-Jane Hannemann
Episode Description
When I first realized what a jarring identity shift motherhood was, it was when I was nursing my newborn under an umbrella on the beach watching the surfers run by. It was the first time, other than pregnancy, that I wasn’t able to get out there and do what I loved. I had been surfing for 25 years, and it was such a big part of my life, I wondered if I would ever be able to return to it the way I had prior to having my daughter.
Today’s guest, Mona-Jane Hannemann has gone through that same challenge and has seen her own mama friends struggle with doing the things they once loved after becoming mothers. Mona, is a self professed fitness nut, and her drive is inspiring others to live the lives they love and be their best physically in the process. Mona received a degree in Exercise Science, and lives on the North Shore of Hawaii, somewhere that really mirrors her outdoor lifestyle.
Having been raised in NZ, Mona is very closely tied to the natural world and ocean, and seeks to spend as much time outdoors and in the water with her family as possible. And if this means taking her 5 year old son, and now 1 year old, with her everywhere, so be it. You can usually find Mona in the ocean surfing & swimming; in the trees hiking and exploring; doing burpees in the back yard, or getting ice cream somewhere.
Mona is going to share about living an “on purpose life” as a mom, losing a child midterm, and raising her two kids on the North Shore of Oahu.
