122: Moms who ride big waves, facing fears and following our truth with Remi Nealon
Episode Description
When we become mothers we often are faced with very real identity shifts, and so many of us question whether we can return to our dreams. I believe society often leads us to believe that as mothers, we can’t accomplish our greatest dreams and that being a mom should are only job. As an ocean woman myself I was faced with judgment when I decided to surf pregnant, and decided to end my surf time early for safety reasons, mostly perpetuated by comments from people around me. But a mother’s intuition is actually something quite sacred, and after almost 3 years of interviewing mamas with amazing talents, passions, accomplishments and feats, I realize trusting our instincts is the only way.
Today’s guest and amazing big wave surfer Remi Nealon, had hugе big wаvе ambitions prior to having children and thought she couldn’t return to them when she had her kids. Remi аssumеd she wоuld bе “trаding riding giаnts fоr thе gigаntic jоy оf rаising а humаn." But she soon realized thаt it wasn’t thе cаsе fоr wоmеn. We can find a way to have them both!
And Remi certainly has. Not only is she a mother of three boys, and raising them solo when her husband is often away for work, Remi also charges some of the biggest, heaviest waves in Hawaii. Remi has such a positive headspace and mindset and that has really carried her through some of her biggest feats. She believes we can be anything we desire in this world and that connecting with her soul makes her a better mother.
Today she is going to go deeper into why mothers should live out their greatest passions even with kids in tow, how she worked her way up into riding giants, and how she juggles surf time and time with her kids.
