97: Why our vaginas matter with pelvic floor therapist + vagina whisperer Sara Reardon
Episode Description
Hi mamas, I’m still coming at you during the COV19 pandemic and I’ve had a lot of mamas reach out and say what they actually need are podcast episodes about things that aren’t related to the virus. Informative, fun, creative, thoughtful episodes, that can help us retain a semblance of normalcy during stressful times. There are tons of mamas out there who could still use support and advice on some of the tougher or taboo subjects of motherhood and today we are going to talk about a really important one-pelvic floor health.
I personally didn’t have any support in this area as a new mom and regret that I didn’t inform myself sooner. After pushing for over 3 hours and a four day long prodromal labor, I was feeling nowhere near “normal” and didn’t realize pain and leaking were not normal pelvic floor signs. Today’s renowned guest, and founder of the Vagina Whisperer, Sara Reardon is the owner of NOLA Pelvic Health in her hometown of New Orleans. This is an online resource for pelvic health education and wellness sessions to help individuals worldwide.
As a doctor of physical therapy and board certified pelvic health therapist, she found her niche in the treatment of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction for both men and women. Sara has quite the reputation in her field and was named one of New Orleans’ Top 40 under 40 young professionals in 2019.
Sara is a mom first and foremost, and is experiencing the stress and uncertainty of social isolation and being rather insular right now just like all of us. Sara is going to talk to us today about how nearly 3 out of 4 women will have pain with sex at some point in their lifetime and how this is one of the MOST COMMON COMPLAINTS women coming into her clinic have. Src believes in educating mamas and in prevention so it can start the conversation, if it can raise awareness, if it can move the needle just a notch in the right direction then I will take it.
